This is not for the faint-hearted

Die Hell in the Gamaskloof was only "discovered" in the late 1950's, when the road was built into the pass.   The road was officially opened in 1962.  The Elands Pass is one with no barriers, switch-back turns and steep descents and ascents.

You will feel the exposure as you decend into the valley as the road slopes away from the mountain.    This is not a pass to go off the edge!  Not if you do not want to stuff up your whole afternoon!
